Social Media Campaigns

During my time as the Augmented Reality Lead at Bare Tree Media, I built augmented reality (AR) effects and managed social media campaigns for TikTok’s clients. The following effects were created in conjunction with Byte Dance producers and their clientele.

KIA Robo-Dog

The most challenging and rewarding AR project I’ve ever worked on was an advertisement for KIA’s 2022 EV6. KIA wanted an AR effect featuring their new Robo-Dog character that had been introduced in their Super Bowl 2022 spot. I animated KIA’s Robo-Dog “tuuurning arooound” to Bonnie Tyler’s “Total Eclipse of the Heart”—a classic internet trend for dog-owners showing off their pups.

Unlike other projects at Bare Tree Media, I was the sole artist on this job. I not only animated KIA’s original 3D model, but enhanced the textures in Autodesk Maya and integrated the results into Tik Tok’s (at the time) proprietary software.

Crocs Lil Classic

In 2022, Crocs came to Tik Tok wanting an interactive, energizing and fun AR effect to introduce their new character Lil’ Classic. Using Crocs style guide, I designed and animated Lil’ Classic wall-jumping across the user’s phone screen and settling atop the user’s head. I added an additional cheeky element: if the user throws up a peace sign, Lil’ Classic does, too!

Tasked with introducing Lil’ Classic for the first time to fans, my top priority was to create an iteration that felt on-brand and recognizable alongside Crocs’ other characters, products, and style. I wanted to leave the users with a curiosity to find out more about Crocs’ clever character.

And yes, it absolutely did help that I am a massive Crocs stan.

Welly #GetWelly Game

Further along in my AR career at Bare Tree Media, I assumed a managerial roll. I communicated with clients, relayed art direction, and managed projects for our AR designers.

I am particularly proud of our collaboration with Welly, a popular bandage company, to create one of the most advanced gamified filters on Tik Tok at the time. To fill up the bandage meter at the bottom of the screen, the user moves their head to catch falling bandages, attempting to avoid hazard items.

This assignment deepened my knowledge on Tik Tok’s effect publishing software, as well as strengthened my ability to communicate client expectations and designers’ software capabilities/limitations between both parties.
